Hi. I am Jessi Musick and I am considered a non-traditional student because I took time off from college and I have a son. This year, I added to the list and got married. I grew up in Nixa, MO just south of Springfield. After one year of college, I left Missouri to live in Los Angeles, CA. I worked for nearly eight years in the film and television industry. I left that line of work to be a mom when my son came along. When he was almost two years old, we packed up and headed back to Missouri. I completed my undergraduate degree in social work at Missouri State in Springfield.

My decision to come to law school was an evolution of career goals. I originally wanted to be a social worker, specifically I wanted to work with children and victims of abuse. The more I learned, the more I realized I could help people in a very different and effective way as an attorney. I still want to focus my future law practice on juvenile and family law. I have a passion for working with domestic violence victims. I got some hands-on experience representing clients in the Family Violence Clinic through the law school.

Mizzou Law has given me the opportunity to live in a small community that is great for my son and always has a variety of things going on. The school is also small, which means I know all my professors and classmates. I have not met anyone that is academically back-stabbing. Everyone here is available to help and willing to be supportive. I was shocked the first week of my 1L year when support staff were calling me by my name. I know that if I ever have any issues—inside the law school or out—the people from the school are there for me. It is a wonderful feeling to know that the people around you want you to succeed.

The bottom line is that I wanted a school that was comfortable in a welcoming community. I got it here. If you have any questions, feel free to send an email.
