My name is Beverly Taylor and I am currently in my third year of law school at Mizzou. I am what is often referred to as a "non-traditional" law student because I took off 3 years between my undergraduate program and attending law school. Although I worked full-time during those 3 years in a non-legal profession, I knew I would eventually attend law school. I took those 3 years to be sure I was educated on my options and that I make the best choice available to me, which surprisingly turned out to be Mizzou.
Being from St. Louis, I know that I want to practice in St. Louis so I always assumed I would attend one of the law schools in St. Louis; I only applied to Mizzou as a back-up. After touring law schools in St. Louis I was not impressed. I was looking for a small, welcoming, supportive, nationally recognized law school. That's what I found at Mizzou. The student body is small enough that you actually get to know your classmates and everyone I encounter in the building- professors, administrators, support staff and even other students- truly want me to succeed and are there to assist me in whatever I need. At Mizzou I'm not just a number; nobody hides books in the library or rips out pages so other students can't access the information (be honest, we all know of schools where that actually happens), professors are always available for a question or even lunch, and potential employers throughout the Midwest know that Mizzou students are worth an interview and worth the extra drive from the bigger cities.
I enjoy the hustle of big cites and look forward to moving back to St. Louis; lets not sugar coat it, Columbia, MO is not a big city. But I picked Mizzou because of the reputation of the program and their commitment to their students.
