Hey everyone! My name is Allison Tungate and I am a 2L from Flora, Illinois. I ended up at Mizzou Law after playing 4 years of Division III tennis at Webster University and receiving my Bachelor of Arts in political science and public relations.
Initially I planned on either staying in St. Louis or going back home to southern Illinois for law school. Partially on a whim and partially because my twin sister decided to, I applied at Mizzou Law. After receiving my acceptance letter, I decided to take a visit of the school. Because I am originally from a town of 5,000 and went to a small liberal arts college, I was nervous about going to a large state university. However, upon my tour, I realized that the law school was anything but overwhelming. I was immediately drawn to the friendliness of the faculty and staff and their willingness to provide any sort of assistance in deciding whether Mizzou was the best choice for me. The accessibility of the professors and the class size was attractive to me since I was coming from a small university. Also, the combination of the history and reputation of the law school and the fact I would be getting more bang for my buck was the icing on the cake in my decision to choose Mizzou Law.
Since I am now a 2L, I could say that I survived my first year. However, I think the best characterization of my 1L year is that I thrived—thanks in part to the faculty and staff and the lifelong friends that I have made. It really is remarkable how surrounding yourself with people who want to see you succeed makes the often stressful environment of law school bearable and even enjoyable. I could not have made a better choice in choosing a law school and I am so proud to be a continuing part of the proud history of Mizzou Law.
