Event Description : The recent events in Ferguson, MO the death of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown at the hands of a white police officer and the subsequent protests, rioting, and police response have captured the attention of the world. The School of Law will host a panel discussion that covers just some of the distinct legal issues underlying these events, including: (1) Police practices such as stop and frisk and the use of deadly force, (2) The interplay between the First Amendment and protest activity, (3) The rampant housing discrimination and segregation that has shaped much of the St. Louis Metropolitan area, and (4) The sociological implications of overpolicing in communities of color.
