A Training Workshop on Mediating Civil Cases

This 3-day general civil mediation training offers a foundation in conflict, negotiation and mediation theory and includes interactive role play and tips on helping parties prepare for mediation. This program meets the requirements for Court-maintained lists of approved Mediators in Missouri State and Federal Courts.

The training is co-sponsored by the UMKC and MU Schools of Law and will be conducted by Faculty of MU Law School’s nationally-recognized Center for the Study of Dispute Resolution. In addition, experienced mediators from the Kansas City area will coach the simulated mediations and give personalized feedback.

Registration is at 8:30, and instruction begins at 9:00 and adjourns at 4:30 each day (3:30 on Friday).
There will be a 15 minute break during the morning and the afternoon and an hour lunch break (included in the tuition).

MU Faculty

Paul Ladehoff is the Training Program Coordinator for the Center for the Study of Dispute Resolution.  Paul joined the Center in 2004 after serving six years as Associate Director of The Mediation Center and Executive Director for the Central Mediation Center in Nebraska.  He is a 1994 graduate of the University of Nebraska Lincoln College of Law and has litigated environmental cases for the United States Department of Justice.  His experience as a trainer includes Basic Mediation Training, Restorative Justice, Peer Mediation, Conflict Resolution, Cooperative Problem Solving, Ethics, and Power Disparities.  Paul is also the Director of the Campus Mediation Service at the University of Missouri.

Tamra Wilson Setser was formerly a partner with the Kansas City firm of Morrison & Hecker where her practice focused on federal complex litigation, arbitration and mediation. She is a Lecturer in Law and formerly Assistant Dean for Career Development. She is a 1981 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Law and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Joseph E. Stevens, Jr., U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri.

General Information:

MCLE: 21.7 Missouri Continuing Legal Education hours, including 20.5 hours of general civil mediation training and 1.2 hour of Ethics. This 3-day general civil mediation training meets and exceeds regulatory requirements for training as a mediator within the State of Missouri and complies with guidelines for inclusion on the civil mediator lists maintained by The Missouri Bar, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri. CLE hours for other jurisdictions are available upon request.

Parking: A three day parking pass will be provided.

If something comes up and you can’t attend, you must call our office at least 24 hours prior to the training to receive a refund, less a processing fee. You may send another person to take your place at the seminar. There will be no refunds for "no shows."
