Dean Wilson Setser joined the Law School in its Career Development Office in 2001. Prior to coming to MU, she was an equity partner at the Kansas City-based firm then known as Morrison and Hecker. She specialized in complex federal litigation and dispute resolution and was the hiring partner for the firm. She served from 1998-2001 as Vice-Chair of the Kansas City Planning and Zoning Commission. Upon graduation from law school in 1981, she clerked for the Honorable Joseph E. Stephens, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. She then practiced civil, criminal, and administrative law for five years in Omaha, Nebraska before returning to Kansas City to join the Hillix, Brewer, Hoffhaus & Whittaker Law firm. Dean Wilson Setser teaches in the MU Law Externship Program and teaches undergraduate classes on negotiation and on legal issues for businesses. She is a member of the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on the MU Research Reactor, and a member of the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity. She has published an on-line ethics guide for mediators with the United States Mediation and Conciliation Services and has done trainings and presentations on "Emotional Intelligence and Lawyering" at regional and national conferences. |
