The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) is a national organization of law students, law faculty, jailhouse lawyers, legal workers, and attorneys that seeks political, social, and economic justice. At the organization's last national convention, the NLG passed many resolutions, including the following resolutions to:
"Demand that ABA officials rescind their invidious requirement that law schools use LSAT scores [as basis for admissions]";
Fight Corporate Power by "adher[ing] to the principle that only natural persons are vested with constitutional rights"; and
"Stop the Witchhunt against Anti-Klan demonstrators in Ann Arbor."
The MU Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild was established in January, 1998 and is open to all students sharing the NLG's philosophy that "human rights shall be more sacred than property interests." We hope to bring awareness to the MU Law School community with respect to the many injustices facing our nation's and our own community's citizens. Problems such as homelessness, racial and sexual discrimination, and the increasing economic gap between the impoverished and the wealthy resulting from corporate dominance are felt by many within our own community. We will provide information on volunteer opportunities, speaker's forums, and/or other activities during the upcoming semesters, and look forward to your participation!
