Students completing the following course of study will be eligible to receive the JD degree from the School of Law and the MHA degree from the Health Management and Informatics graduate program. This course of study may be completed in four years and an additional summer session. Normally, students require three years to complete the requirements for the JD degree and two years to complete the requirements for the MHA degree.

*The School of Law has agreed that any six (6) hours from the Health Administration curriculum may be counted toward the JD degree.

Students may obtain up to three (3) hours of Law School Research (5875) credit for completing HMI 8450 (Methods & Research in Health Services Management) if the research is also approved and graded by a law school faculty member. In addition, HMI 7574 (Health Care Law & Ethics) may be taken for Law School credit if the student has not yet taken 5615 (Health Care Law & Policy.)

The Department of Health Management & Informatics will accept any 6 (six) hours of Law School credits as satisfaction of its Professional Electives requirement. In addition, 5615(Health Care Law & Policy) may be taken instead of HMI 7574 (Health Care Law & Ethics).

Actual course offerings and requirements are subject to change. Official course lists and requirements are available from the departments. Students are strongly advised to consult with academic advisors at both Schools before designing a personal course of study.

Regulations

1. The MHA course of study assumes that students have completed the required prerequisites before enrolling in the MHA program. These prerequisites are:
   1. Managerial Accounting
   2. Managerial Finance
   3. Microeconomics for Managers
   4. Statistical Analysis
   Students who have not completed these prerequisites prior to enrolling in the MHA program may not be able to complete the Dual Degree program in four years. For further information about these prerequisites, consult the MHA catalog.
2. Students wishing to pursue the JD/MHA Dual Degree Program must meet the admission requirements and be admitted separately for both the School of Law and the Health Management and Informatics graduate program. For further information on the admission requirements of both programs, consult their school catalogs. As soon as possible, students should file a Statement of Intention to pursue the JD/MHA Dual Degree Program with the Associate Deans of both schools. The Statement of Intention may be a short letter simply stating the intention to pursue the Dual Degree. Students who have not submitted a Statement of Intention will not be considered Dual Degree candidates and may not receive the benefits of this course of study.
3. Students who receive Law School credit for classes from the Health Management program may not receive credit for taking other classes outside the School of Law.
4. Dual Degree candidates who subsequently decide to pursue only the MHA. or the JD degree must complete the degree program in its entirety and subject to the same rules and requirements as students not pursuing a Dual Degree.
5. Student honors at the School of Law will be computed based on classes enrolled in as law classes. Determination of academic standards at the School of Law will be in accordance with School of Law rules and based only on classes enrolled in as law classes.
