Research Instructions

In addition to the sessions offered as a part of first-year Legal Research & Writing classes, the Law Library is willing to schedule classes in various aspects of legal research, both online and other formats. We will entertain requests by formal or informal groups of students to provide instruction on research subjects of particular interest to them. The following is a list of the types of classes that might be arranged:

  • Focused LEXIS and/or WESTLAW topics.
  • Searching on LOIS (Law Office Information Systems…a less expensive alternative to the above).
  • Basic or advanced internet searching.
  • Instruction on any of the online database products purchased by the Law Library, or by the MU Libraries.
  • Instruction on online products purchased for use by the MU Campus Community.
  • Refreshers or updates on 1L research topics (digests, statutes, citators, secondary sources, boolean searching, etc.), or other courses librarians have taught.

If you desire to arrange for instruction, or have any questions about scheduled instruction, contact via e-mail or at (573) 882-6464.

Individual research assistance is available at the Reference Desk as follows:

Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
Saturday 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Sunday 4 p.m. - 7:45 p.m.

Students may also e-mail questions via Ask a Librarian.

In addition to these methods, students may arrange to meet with a librarian for individual research instruction or assistance.

Questions relative to the above should be addressed to via e-mail or at (573) 882-6464.
