Computing Sites Printing
The Law School Computer Lab has one HP8000 laser printer available for student use. There are separate laser printers available in the lab for printing from Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis.
Print Credits
At the beginning of the fall semester, all law students will receive 700 free print credits for the academic year, which includes both Fall and Winter semesters. Law students will also receive 140 free print credits at the beginning of the summer semester (June 1st). Each time you request to print a document on the HP8000, a dialog box appears requesting your PawPrint ID and Password. After entering this information, you will have a chance to accept the charges of the print job, or to cancel the request before being charged. A dialog box will show the cost of printing the document as well as the amount of credit you have left. Once your allotted number of free print credits runs out, your student account will simply be charged $.05 for each page printed.
Printing from Your Laptop
In order to print from your laptop using either an ethernet connection or wireless NIC card, you will need to install the Print Smart software. The instructions for installing Print Smart can be found in the Law Lab or at DOIT's Print Anywhere Page.
Printing Problems
If the printer is out of paper or has a paper jam, please contact either the User Support Analyst or a Student Lab Assistant for assistance. If the Computer Support Specialist or a Lab Assistant is not available, you may contact a Reference Librarian for assistance.
Westlaw and LexisNexis Printing
There are an additional three printers located in the Computer Lab for Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis print jobs. Printing from Westlaw and Lexis is free when using these printers. However, make sure you select these stand-alone printers from the print options/destination page and not the attached printer option. If you print to the attached printer, your requested information will print from the computer lab HP8000 printer, and print credits will be deducted from your print account balance. If you are using the web versions of Westlaw and Lexis, do not use Netscape's Print button, because again, your print job will be sent to the attached printer, and not the stand-alone printers, deducting print credits from your print account balance.
If Your Document Does Not Print
All Westlaw and Lexis print requests are sent to the Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis home offices before they are re-routed back to the printers in the Computer Lab. Therefore, it takes longer for these print requests to reach the printers in the lab - the length of time depends on the amount of Internet traffic at the time you send your print request. If you have waited over fifteen minutes and your print job has still not printed, please contact the User Support Analyst, a Student Lab Assistant, or a Reference Librarian to call either Westlaw or Lexis to track your print request.
Other Printing Problems
If either the Westlaw or Lexis printers are out of paper or have a paper jam, please contact either the User Support Analyst or a Student Lab Assistant for assistance. If the Computer Support Specialist or a Lab Assistant is not available, you may contact a Reference Librarian for assistance.
