Opening Files from the Toolbar with a Macro

From Word

  1. Under the Tools menu select Macro and Record New Macro… under the submenu.
  2. Name the macro in the Macro Name box.
  3. Use the Save In box to select the document that you wish to contain the macro. The default is All Documents, which will apply the macro at all times.
  4. Select the Toolbars button.
  5. Select the Commands tab.
  6. Under Commands click on the macro and drag it to the tool bar that you wish to access the macro from. Note, a small + will appear when the macro is in a proper position to be added.
  7. Select the Close button to exit the customize screen and begin recording the functions of the macro. Note: any commands entered from this point until after stopping the macro will be recorded as functions of the macro.
  8. Select the Open File button on the editing toolbar and open the file that you want the macro to open.
  9. Select the Stop button to stop the recording. Note, by selecting the Pause button located next to the stop button, you may perform commands that will not be recorded in the macro. Press the pause button again to resume recording.
  10. Close the current document. The macro is no ready to open the document that you have selected at any time.

From WordPerfect

  1. Under the Tools menu, select Marcos and under the submenu for macros select Record.
  2. Name the Macro.
  3. Select the Close button. Note, and further commands used will be recorded into the macro until you select stop.
  4. Select the Open File button.
  5. Select the file that you wish to open from the macro.
  6. Select the Stop Recording button from the macro toolbar.
  7. Under the Tools menu select the Settings option.
  8. Select the Customize button.
  9. Select the toolbar that you where you want the macro to be added. Note, the toolbars with the check marks by them are those that are currently displayed in WordPerfect.
  10. Select Edit.
  11. Select the Macro tab.
  12. Select Add Macro.
  13. Select the macro that you wish to add to the toolbar. The macro is now added to the toolbar. The icon is a small cassette tape. Note, if more than one macro is added the icons will still look the same. To identify specific macros hold the cursor on that macro for a few seconds and it’s name will appear in a small yellow box.
