Happy Hours
SBA sponsors a Happy Hour at the beginning and end of each semester. They are traditionally, but not always, held at the Déjà vu Comedy Club. SBA covers a majority of the costs, yet students are still asked to pay $6 at the door for bottomless cup. SBA members are not required to pay the $6 charge. Your name will be on a list at the front door for each Happy Hour.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters
SBA pairs all entering 1Ls with a 2L or 3L Big Brother or Sister. The pairings are revealed after the first week of classes during a pizza party followed by the beginning of the year Happy Hour. An SBA member is appointed as event chair. He or she is responsible for making the pairings and coordinating additional event details.

Tailgates
SBA sponsors a number of tailgates every football season. The tailgate chair is responsible for working with the budget and Mizzou football schedule to set various tailgate dates. The tailgates take place in Reactor Field where SBA provides food and drinks for law school students.

Service Projects
The Student Outreach Committee is responsible for planning school-wide service projects throughout the year. SBA traditionally hosts a clothing drive in the fall; however, more definite projects are difficult to set as projects often arise on a case-by-case basis. Past projects include Habitat for Humanity, clothing drives, food drives, etc.

Barrister’s Ball
Barrister’s Ball is the annual law school formal and is held in the spring. Women traditionally wear formal gowns and men wear tuxedos; however, there has been a trend toward more casual attire over the past few years as cocktail-style dresses and suits have become more the norm. Students must purchase tickets for themselves and guests. Typically there are two ticket prices—one including dinner and drinks for the night, the other just covering drinks after dinner.

The Gavel
The Gavel is a coed softball tournament held in the spring. SBA organizes the tournament and is responsible for booking fields, registering teams, and securing food and beer for participants. Games are typically held at Cosmo Park in Columbia.

Tim Heinsz 5K
In memory and honor of Professor Tim Heinsz, former dean of the MU School of Law and avid runner, the SBA hosts a memorial 5K run/walk with proceeds benefiting the Timothy J. Heinsz Memorial Fund. While the original run/walk was solely an SBA activity, increased participation in the planning has grown so much that the 5K is now organized by a separate committee.
